The Church is supposed to be a dwelling place for God’s presence according to the Bible. Listen to what Ephesians 2:22 says, In him you also are being built together into a dwelling place for God by the Spirit.Every local church should be a dwelling place for God. Why? Because the presence of God is every persons greatest need. When last did you “wait” on the presence of God? When last did you invite His presence to come? When last did you actually engage with God? Isaiah 40:31 “but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength.”
Sadly, God is not allowed in most modern churches today because we are trying to be “relevant” to the world. But the more relevant we try to be the more irrelevant we are becoming! The world doesn’t need our lights, coffee and Ted talks they need the presence of God! That is what’s going to change them. That is what’s going to bring them home! I have no problem with excellence and technology, I’m all for it, but not if its there to replace God.
Believers also need the presence of God. Every person should have a personal encounter with God every week at church. We should expect nothing less. When someone encounters God, doubts disappear, insecurities disappear, joy comes, peace comes, direction comes, inspiration comes, love and wholeness come, healing comes, passion and desire for God comes, purity comes and so many things. Facilitating more of God’s presence in our churches would free us up from a lot of unnecessary “work”. I believe every church can find a healthy balance between organisation/technology/excellence/relevance AND Presence. What are your thoughts? Comment below.
