Some Christians believe that if they allow certain objects into their home that have links to satanic rituals, witchcraft or idols then they allow the devil to have power over them and bring curse to them and their family. If they have repeated sickness or financial strife or other hardships in their life, they even go searching through their house in case there may be any of these “cursed items” that accidentally got brought in. They get rid of the articles and say some prayer to “break their power” and even anoint certain areas of their home with oil as a defence against demonic spirits gaining access through these objects.

Do you know how bizarre this is to the New Covenant? This way of thinking is anti the Cross and anti faith? It ascribes to the devil far greater power than he has. How can an object be greater than the Cross or greater than the authority you have in Christ? We need to stop buying into this garbage from people who don’t understand or believe the New Covenant!

Look at the apostle Paul. He had no problem eating meat that had been sacrificed to idols and he told the Early Church believers they shouldn’t either. This meat represented an object, like any object that could be used for demonic purposes. Paul wasn’t encouraging believers to take part in idols, he was simply saying that if any pagans used that meat for idol worship and then later sold it at the market to unsuspecting buyers (as was often the practise of the day), then don’t worry about it, you can still eat it because it cannot have any power or effect over you.

1 Corinthians 10:25-31Eat whatever is sold in the meat market without raising any question on the ground of conscience. For “the earth is the Lord’s, and the fullness thereof.” If one of the unbelievers invites you to dinner and you are disposed to go, eat whatever is set before you without raising any question on the ground of conscience. But if someone says to you, “This has been offered in sacrifice,” then do not eat it, for the sake of the one who informed you, and for the sake of conscience— I do not mean your conscience, but his. For why should my liberty be determined by someone else’s conscience? If I partake with thankfulness, why am I denounced because of that for which I give thanks? So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.” (Also so 1 Corinthians 8:4-10).

Meat simply represents an object that was used in idol worship or occult practises that believers may have ended up eating unaware. You may have objects in your house that were used for similar purposes. You don’t have to worry, they don’t have any power over you or your home. If you were to go and start worshiping idols with those objects then that’s another story, but you’re not doing that. You simply might have them in your house as an ornament or picture or art piece not even realising what they represent. Those things don’t have power over you or your home as a child of God!

But Paul is not finished. He then goes so far to say that even if you knew the meat was offered to idols, you could still go ahead and eat it because you are in Christ where all curse and legal rights of the enemy have been completely broken. In Christ nothing belongs to the enemy anymore, it all belongs to God! For “the earth is the Lord’s, and the fullness thereof.”

One thing is for sure, Paul was not afraid of objects that were rooted in the demonic realm, he ate them for breakfast!

The more mature we become in the New Covenant the more we will realise that it has got nothing to do with an object but everything to do with our faith or lack of it. If you don’t believe you are a child of God who is protected by the New Covenant and have total victory and authority over the devil, then you’ll have a weak defence that the enemy can exploit through your fears, unbelief and ignorance. You’ll end up believing the lies that say that cursed objects give the devil legal access into your home and family. This kind of thinking will put doubt and fear in your faith and you will not have confidence in exercising your authority to resist demonic attack, or believing you have the right to resist the enemy.

When you know that you have total authority in Christ and that the devil has no authority over you whatsoever, you won’t obsess about the devil and “cursed objects” or “doorways” or “footholds” or “legal rights”. You will simply walk in your authority and the devil won’t be able to touch you, your home or your family.

When it comes to the believer, all curse was broken at the Cross. All generational curses and legal rights of the enemy were cancelled and destroyed. All the rights and authority of the enemy were obliterated at the Cross. All access that he might have had through your sin or even “cursed objects” was taken away from him at the Cross! The enemy has no legal rights over you as a believer and he never can, ever again!

Galatians 3:13Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us…”

Colossians 2:13-15When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins, having canceled the charge of our legal indebtedness, which stood against us and condemned us; he has taken it away, nailing it to the cross. And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.”

Of course if you find out you have an object that represents demonic things and feel uncomfortable keeping it, then just get rid of it. If you’re keeping them because you think they will give your home good luck, then that is superstition and not faith in Christ. In that case you simply need to repent from putting your faith in other things and put your faith fully in Christ.

I personally don’t ever want to have any objects that are associated with the occult or idol worship, but I never get scared that I may have mistakenly brought one into my house and therefore it may possibly be bringing curse on my home and family. Imagine Jesus acting like that and getting paranoid and obsessed about objects. He just knew His authority and walked in it. He could go anywhere without ever being afraid of the enemy having some legal right. Demons trembled with such fear whenever Jesus came near them and often begged Him not to cast them into hell. This is the authority we have in Christ and when we realise this and walk in it, you’ll find demons are afraid of you.

Imagine a scrawny little man was armed with machine guns, rocket launches, flamethrowers and hand grenades and knew how to use them and wasn’t afraid to use them. You would not dare attack him. Not because you’re afraid of his natural strength, but because you’re afraid of the weapons he has and the fact that he will use them against you. Imagine if that same scrawny man carried all that weaponry, and yet you could see that he had no idea what it was or how to use it. That would be completely different wouldn’t it? You would find it very easy to attack him if you wanted to.

I’m sure you can already see the point, which of course is that if you are armed with your incredible authority in Christ the devil will be afraid to mess with you. Conversely, if you don’t know your authority, you become an easy target to the enemy, and he’ll attack you as much as you let him get away with.

It is crucial to know that our authority does not come from our performance or behaviour whether good or bad, it comes from our faith and the fact we are in Christ. If we believe our authority is based on our performance or on whether our house is free from cursed objects or not then we will not take up our authority with confidence and the enemy will take advantage of our ignorance.

An object cannot give the devil a sovereign right over you, so stop believing it does! Repent of this believing. Simply believe the truth.

The truth is if you know your absolute authority in Christ you could sleep in a demon temple under a blanket of cursed objects on a bed made out of idols and the devil could not so much as touch you! That’s because you are united with Christ, and sit with him in heavenly places far above all principalities and powers where all things are under your feet!

Ephesians 1:19-23  “…and what is the immeasurable greatness of his power toward us who believe, according to the working of his great might that he worked in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places, far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and above every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come. And he put all things under his feet and gave him as head over all things to the church, which is his body, the fullness of him who fills all in all.

I lived in Hong Kong for 12 years where most restaurants and shops have in them an actual shrine set up with idols to offer food and items to them. The hope is the business will receive a blessing from these mysterious gods the idols represented. Sadly so many Chinese people are demonised because of these practises where they unbeknowingly open themselves up to the demons behind these idols. However, as a born again person, not once did I ever worry about eating food or buying things in these shops, knowing full well all its contents were

dedicated to idols. As far as I’m concerned “the earth is the Lord’s, and the fullness thereof” and I am in Christ and under His authority. Not once in Hong Kong did my eating of foods offered to idols in these “idol temples” ever give the devil a right to access or harm me.

I’m a child of God and so are you if you are in Christ. No object can override this reality. Keep your eyes on Jesus, take up your authority and stand in it with great confidence and boldness and thank Him that it all comes to us through His unmerited grace!

Let these other scriptures inspire you faith about your authority in Christ:

Luke 10:18-20He replied, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven. I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you. However, do not rejoice that the spirits submit to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.

Matthew 28:18And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations…”

Colossians 2:9-10For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form, and in

Christ you have been brought to fullness. He is the head over every power and authority.”

Ephesians 2:6And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus,

Luke 9:1When Jesus had called the Twelve together, he gave them power and authority to drive out all demons and to cure diseases,

Mark 16:15-18And he said to them, “Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation. Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned. And these signs will accompany those who believe: in my name they will cast out demons; they will speak in new tongues; they will pick up serpents with their hands; and if they drink any deadly poison, it

will not hurt them; they will lay their hands on the sick, and they will recover.
