Guess what, no matter how much you sin right now as a believer, it can never separate you from God because of what Christ has done for you! Does that mean it’s ok to just keep sinning? Of course not! That would be stupid. Sin is destructive and sin is distracting so we should be doing our very best to live free from it. But just because we shouldn’t sin, doesn’t mean God cuts us off from His presence if we sin. What Christ did on the Cross was enough to permanently secure us in an unbreakable relationship with God! His grace has brought us into God’s unmerited favour, love and blessing regardless of our performance. This is the divine empowering arrangement of the New Covenant. Grace creates the perfect environment for us to stumble and fall while we are on our way to victory! Many teach that if you sin it cuts you off from God until you confess, repent and ask for forgiveness in order to be restored back to fellowship with God. But this is Old Covenant thinking and there is no denying it. As long as you still think this way it reveals you don’t have a full revelation of the New Covenant. That is why from time to time we need someone who can throw a grace grenade into our mind to blow away traditional ways of thinking that hinder us from seeing the glory of the New Covenant that is based on better promises! (Hebrews 8:6).

Look at all the scriptures that back up the truth that sin can no longer separate us from God:

  • Christ has permanently and irreversibly removed all of our sins past, present and future and is no longer counting them against us.
    (2 Corinthians 5:19, Colossians 2:13, Hebrews 10:17, Psalms 103:12).
  • Christ has brought us into perfect peace between us and God, fully reconciling us with no more wrath or separation.
    (Romans 5:1-2, 2 Corinthians 5:19, Hebrews 9:28-29, 1 John 4:17-18).
  • We have been made one with Christ and seated with Him in heavenly places. God cannot cut Himself off from Himself!
    (Ephesians 2:4-9, 1 Corinthians 6:17).
  • Christ ever lives to intercede for us and this especially includes if we sin.
    (Hebrews 7:25, Romans 8:33-34).
  • Christ is our advocate whose blood eternally speaks on our behalf so that our sin can never cut us off again!
    (1 John 2:1-2).
  • Through His grace we have boldness to draw near to the throne of grace in our time of need. No fear, no rejection, no separation.
    (Hebrews 4:16, Ephesians 3:11-12, Hebrews 10:16-22).
  • There is now nothing that can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus. Absolutely nothing. Not sin. Not ourselves. Not the devil. Not God. Nothing!
    (Romans 8:38-39).
  • We have been hidden in Christ and it is therefore impossible to be separated from God.
    (Colossians 3:1-4).
  • When the Holy Spirit fills us He remains forever and never leaves us. If our sin cut us off from God then the Holy Spirit would have to leave us every time we sinned, but He doesn’t because Jesus said He remains forever!
    (John 14:16-18, John 1:33).
These are all infallible proofs that our sin does not and cannot cut us off from God ever again. This should fill us with boldness and confidence to live close to God even as stumble and fall while on our way to greater victory!
